A former Texas day care worker has been tossed behind bars on a $250,000 bond for allegedly slamming a 4-year-old girl to the ground.
According to Houston station KPRC, the incident occurred recently at the Children’s Lighthouse in Spring, Texas, where day care worker Gregory Diglin allegedly grabbed the young girl by her arm and slammed her to the ground while nobody else was present.
In an attempt to disguise his assault, Diglin then tried cleaning up her blood and preparing a form for her parents in which it was stated that the girl had hurt herself by tumbling around in the classroom, according to the report.
Unfortunately for him, the unnamed young lady revealed the truth to her parents, who then contacted the police. An investigation soon led authorities to the surveillance footage below from the scene (WARNING: Some viewers may find this video disturbing):
Authorities also expressed concern that there may have been similar incidents in the past that were never reported.
The day care has since released a statement announcing that Diglin had been terminated from his position and vowing that despite this mishap it was still a safe place for kids.
“The Children’s Lighthouse of Spring Harmony is independently owned and operated and has established a reputation for being a warm, welcoming and safe environment for young children and their families,” the statement read, according to WLS. “The educational day care center continues to live up this reputation for the families.”
According to one parent, this statement was enough to reassure her that her 5-year-old daughter was safe there.
“I don’t have any concerns about the other teachers there, and I won’t pull her out of school because of their curriculum,” said parent Claire Burke. “And I feel like now they’ll be more secure there.”
However, an investigation by KHOU uncovered that “the Department of Family Protection Services has cited Children’s Lighthouse 31 times in the last two years.”
“Nine of those were considered ‘serious’ issues, including back in September when DFPS says the day care didn’t notify the state after ‘a situation placing children at risk,’” the station reported.
