Did you know that reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and celebrating the great nation that affords the American people so many privileges and freedoms makes one an anti-immigrant bigot?
It doesn’t, of course, but some brainwashed parents of students at the Peck Slip School elementary in New York City, apparently felt differently.
According to DNAinfo.com, which tracks local news in the New York City and Chicago areas, some parents threw a hissy fit after the school recently began enforcing a long-ignored state law requiring that public schools host a daily pledge of allegiance to the flag.
“Both my grandfathers fought in World War II, and I love this country, but I don’t feel like the pledge is the right way to express that, especially at a school with lots of international parents and students who had never even heard about the pledge,” one parent complained.
“I’ve never been comfortable with the ‘under God’ part — and as I looked into the history of the pledge, it does have anti-immigrant sentiment and we don’t need any more of that.”
Really? If the “international parents and students” were not aware of the pledge, perhaps they needed to learn about it, yes? It would certainly be appreciated, since they were — for the time being — in the United States of America.
Plus, reciting the pledge was reportedly optional.
“Children and adults may opt out of saying the Pledge,” Peck Slip School Principal Maggie Siena explained in an email to parents earlier this month.
And it wasn’t like the school didn’t give an iota about its international students. Last month it hosted a so-called “Inclusion Workshop” designed to promote a “dialogue around the importance of understanding others’ experiences and stories.”
So what’s the problem?
“Some parents said they are upset that the school began using the pledge without discussing it with parents ahead of time — saying the issue has become particularly charged in light of Donald Trump’s presidency,” reported DNAinfo.com.
Oh, so that’s it. It seems that some parents associated the Pledge of Allegiance with President Donald Trump, who has been accused by the liberal media of being a racist, a bigot, an Islamophobe, a Nazi, you name it.
Like him or not, Trump won the presidency last year. More importantly, and Democrats don’t realize it, but the Pledge of Allegiance transcends the presidency, and whoever holds the office. It is a century-old tribute that symbolizes the greatness of America and its values — things that every child in our nation should know about.
